Subject: AIS for ANM9

Dear Marek,

Sorry for delay, but Im alone but I am very alone in my office and the papers are accumulated.

Regarding your questions:

1) Approximately, 350 (registry 2005)

2) Mainly by VHF, but in the sites very away, also we used GSM.

3) I understand that this question talks about to AtoN with AIS. The monitoring systems transmit information to the Control Centre and only transmit position the buoys.

4) In our present project, for the peninsular Atlantic coast, we have 6 AIS-AtoN, 4 in beacons and 2 in buoys, but in addition we have like Synthetic AIS-AtoN, all the lighthouses of this coast area. Our intention is that all the lighthouses, beacon or important signals of the coast, including leading, are transmitted like AIS-AtoN: synthetic or physic.

5) We have 6 AIS-AtoN, 4 in beacons located in islands and 2 in buoys.

6) Our intention is to use the virtual AIS-AtoN in the cases of lost of the anchorage of the buoys, in cases of wrecks and some works in the ports areas or approaches. Perhaps, also in corridors for special HSC or ships when a special marking are required and that are not necessary for the set of habitual ships in the area.

In relation to the restrictions, always it would have to be activated by a competent authority and official notice through the notices to mariners. Its use is permanent must more have the conformity of the users, since in case of an accident they could demand the non existence of AtoN. Also it is necessary to consider to the different user in the zone and the real use of the AIS; in most of the cases is only for comply an obligation, but its not connected to the ECDIS or radar, and is not used in navigation.

Finally, Im trying to install one AIS-AtoN in the safety buoy or relevant point in each port. Really, I think its a good challenge for monitoring, but can be a conflict between the multi target and limitation for the slots. So no so much AIS-Aton should be installed in an area with many vessels.

I hope to see you next week.

 Best regards
